L&T Electronic Products & Systems (LTEPS), which has announced a Rs 50 billion investment programme to build manufacturing capabilities in Coimbatore, is targeting the fast-growing EV ecosystem through indigenous mobility solutions, including traction motors, integrated powertrains, ADAS and connected mobility platforms. The Rs 50 billion investment will support the development of an integrated electronics manufacturing ecosystem, product platforms and technology capabilities across strategic electronics, power electronics, mobility, industrial robotics and automation, and electronics systems design and manufacturing (ESDM).
Headquartered in Bengaluru with manufacturing operations based in Coimbatore, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) incubated business L&T Electronic Products & Systems (LTEPS) in April 2026 as a dedicated business segment under L&T’s Precision Engineering & Systems (PES) vertical. LTEPS is focused on creating IP-driven, design-led electronics product platforms to support future growth across energy, mobility, industrial automation, electronics manufacturing and strategic electronics.
The company’s manufacturing expansion will be centred around a 40-acre integrated campus in Coimbatore, positioned as a future-ready electronics manufacturing hub with capabilities spanning precision manufacturing, electronics assembly, testing and product integration.
Speaking at a virtual media roundtable today, Prashant Jain, Managing Director, Larsen & Toubro Vyoma and Head, Electronic Products & Systems, said the business is being created around long-term technology trends and India’s growing demand for indigenous electronics capabilities. “The way we are going about this business is that R&D and IP are the foundation. In the short term we will come with technical collaborations and joint ventures to accelerate, but the goal is to create homegrown IP and to build products and IP within the business as we move forward,” Jain said.
The Rs 50 billion investment is expected to create around 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. The Coimbatore ecosystem will bring together multiple manufacturing capabilities, including plastics, rubber, complex compounds, metallics, precision manufacturing, electronics box-build, testing and compliance infrastructure.
“We are creating an ecosystem with a 40-acre manufacturing setup in Coimbatore covering plastics, rubber, complex compounds, metallics, precision manufacturing and electronics, to do box-build, testing and manufacturing of all the electronic products,” Jain added.
The LTEPS structure comprises five business areas. The strategic electronics business will continue to focus on defence electronics, while the four industrial verticals include power electronics, mobility, industrial robotics and automation (IRA), and ESDM.
Building India-focused mobility electronics portfolio
Mobility is one of the key growth areas for LTEPS, driven by the rapid transition towards electric vehicles, connected mobility and advanced safety systems. The company aims to develop indigenous solutions across electric powertrains, vehicle electronics, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and connected vehicle platforms.
Jain said mobility electronics represents a major opportunity as electrification transforms transportation across segments. “The application of battery technology to mobility is disrupting everything. If you look at drones, aviation and marine, everywhere you now see deployment of electric mobility. Mobility and auto electronics is the second business unit, where we see rapid EV adoption, autonomous vehicle safety and so on,” he said.
LTEPS has already secured an order for 500,000 traction motors for a two-wheeler application and plans to manufacture motors across two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, trucks and buses. “The first product we have launched, and where we have landed a customer for 500,000 motors for a two-wheeler, is the traction motor for EVs,” Jain said.
Sudeepth Puthumana, Head, Mobility Business, L&T Electronic Products & Systems, said the mobility strategy is built around three themes — green, safe and connected mobility. “Our tagline is green, safe and connected. Green is for the EV ecosystem and what we want to contribute there. Safe is affordable safety, and we feel ADAS for India is the most challenging thing. Last but not least is connectivity to the cloud: updating software on the run, digital twins and so on,” he said.
As part of its EV portfolio, LTEPS is developing motor control units, integrated powertrain solutions and advanced electronics systems. The company has partnered with EVR Motors for motor technology and plans to manufacture these products at its Coimbatore facility. “The motor will be produced in India, at our facility in Coimbatore, from next month onwards, as series production for a specific two-wheeler customer,” Puthumana said.
The company is also developing scalable motor control units with architectures ranging from 40 kilowatts to 200 kilowatts, along with integrated x-in-1 solutions combining motors, gearboxes, motor control units, DC-DC converters and onboard chargers.
“Today most products are imported and the supply chain is quite dependent on global supply chains. On the motor, we have almost 98 per cent localisation from a component perspective, and from a cost point of view we have an indigenous product at around 70 per cent,” Puthumana said.
Focus on affordable safety and connected vehicles
Beyond electrification, LTEPS is targeting affordable ADAS solutions designed specifically for Indian road conditions. The company aims to address challenges such as unpredictable traffic patterns, non-standard road infrastructure and diverse road users through AI-enabled perception technologies.
Puthumana said the company is preparing for the growing adoption of safety regulations in India and is developing ADAS systems that can operate effectively in local conditions. “We are addressing the performance of ADAS: that it works for India and for all kinds of objects, such as different three-wheelers and different animals. We are addressing that through AI in the technology,” he said.
The connected mobility portfolio will focus on vehicle-to-cloud connectivity, predictive maintenance, personalisation and vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication.
Electronics manufacturing opportunity
LTEPS’s expansion comes amid strong growth expectations for India’s electronics manufacturing sector. The market is projected to grow from approximately $115 billion currently to $500 billion by FY2030-31, supported by renewable energy, electric vehicles, industrial automation and localisation initiatives. Within LTEPS’s targeted industrial segments, the addressable market is expected to grow from around $2 billion currently to approximately $5 billion by FY2030-31 at an estimated CAGR of 18 per cent.
The company plans to leverage L&T’s engineering heritage while building technology-led products for domestic and global markets. “This business is going to create its own IP and products customised to market requirements in India, and some of these products will be world-class and will cater to certain countries outside India,” Jain said.
With investments across manufacturing, research and development, and product engineering, LTEPS aims to position itself as an Indian technology-led supplier in industrial electronics and mobility systems, addressing the evolving requirements of energy transition, automation and next-generation transportation.
